Mathieu lives in Paris, Alice in a small spa town

I’m a bit torn, because the depiction of their (re)connection in the film is well-crafted and truthful, while there are moments of subtle humor and cute interactions. For example, there is a wedding scene where two men “sing” (whistle) like birds to each other, talking rather eloquently and magnetically – I would watch this spin-off.

However, when combined with very familiar bits of history, it all lacks the weight to justify this lengthy interpretation

However, the film is excruciatingly slow, emotionally laconic and almost two hours longer than what would have made it more time efficient. Breeze’s enlargements and distant plans are beautiful, but rather barren, as are the inner lives of his sickly characters, which are well portrayed.
