A Montana ranching family faces off against other ranchers encroaching on their land. Forty J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned rodeo veteran. It’s basically Montana mob wars with a dose of testosterone (cows on horseback carrying guns while fishing)! Costner is a veteran actor as the Duttons’ boss. The show is at its best when it shows the Duttons moving the chessboard and engaging their enemies. The show falters in the early part of the second season but picks up again halfway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and plays the weak hand badly, the story is awkward and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Houser as Rip is probably the strongest performance (without Costner himself) and I’m looking forward to seeing everything. The scenes were Rip. Thomas Rainwater is also great. The story is haunting and the scenery is beautiful. Cormac McCarthy’s "All The Pretty Horses" was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show hits in a similar vein. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
